What a super Sunday we've had!
I don't have any nifty pictures or particularly funny stories, but this day was a perfect collision of all the things I love. A cool front came through last night and we woke up to lovely breezes and a high of 75. We had a good time in church, Caro talked to her class about the Uganda trip, and Chris and I volunteered in a preschool classroom for the first time since Highland.
After church had amazing venison bratwurst for lunch and then Caro and I took Ruby for her first hike in Holliday Park. There was and abundance of laughter and giggles and splashes and muddy hugs. Caroline and I stopped several times just to gaze all the way up to the canopy top and take a deep breath. We love it there, and we asked each other several times how we'd managed to go so long between hikes.
Chris worked on homework with a friend from school, and Caro and I went out for a wonderfully pleasant afternoon of shopping for our favorite bun in the oven... our niece Ashlynn is due in early November but the baby shower is next weekend. I enjoyed every minute of time I spent with my sweet daughter, and I soaked up every ounce of affection she was willing to share.
Erica called while we were shopping and I was more than happy to drop everything and just hear about her weekend and future plans. She's one of my favorite people in the world, and I've found that a 10 minute conversation with her can fuel me for weeks. We both tend to be a bit on the busy side (understatement of the year), so I'm especially thankful when it works out for us to chat. I think Caro must understand all of this because Erica and B are the only two people that she actually lets me talk to without a circus of interruptions and pleas for participation.
Dinner, a.k.a. Round 2 of Jim Morgan Excellence, consisted of the two most delicious brisket taco's I've had in 2011. I made homemade salsa yesterday so the dinner table was pret-ty quiet as we all savored our food in respectful silence. You laugh, but that's exactly what it seemed like! =)
With the evening dropping into the high 50's, we took late evening (10 o'clock...yikes) walk around the neighborhood to enjoy a few more moments outdoors. Caroline insisted on wearing her headlamp for the walk, and then proceeded to impersonate our realtor for the duration of the walk. She gave a running commentary of the neighborhood to us, prospective buyers, and took her job quite seriously. She even stopped at each "For Sale" home and read the specs with a dramatic (loud) voice using the light from her spelunker gear. Ruby was a delight during the entire walk, and seemed to get a real kick out of Caro's various lights that bounced around on the sidewalk in front of her.
I played fetch in the dark with Ruby for almost 30 minutes when we returned... Chris mysteriously disappeared and I assumed he was helping Caro get ready for bed. Wrong. The timer I heard go off when we arrived back at our house was actually an alert to a special eBay auction he was watching. I have been searching for a new laptop bag for about 6 months. The search has been rough because I *love* the bag I have now, but it's 3 years old and completely worn out. My amazing husband actually found the exact same bag, new with tags, on eBay about 10 days ago. He's been silently monitoring the auction, and surprised me with the confirmation notice a couple of minutes ago. I couldn't stop laughing, and I'm completely overjoyed that I have my bag again!
I'll probably head to bed soon. This day has been as perfect as an Earthly day can be, and I'm looking forward to seeing if it seeps over into my dreams. =)
