Everett turns 1!!

My little PorkChop turned one year old today.  It's the fastest a year has ever flown by.

My heart is a little broken today, but I'm looking forward to the birthday celebration on Sunday... complete with a circus cake and a big sister to help blow out the candle!

Everett: 11 months!

I suppose I should get this 11 month post finished before Everett's 1 year... NEXT WEEK!

(Gah. I had to take a break to sob and feel completely sorry for myself that his babyhood is almost over.)

Everett's 11th month was full of big, juicy milestones!

Swinging!
This photo cracks me up.  He is so funny about grabbing the back ropes instead of the front ropes.  He eventually gets the hang of it, but we start from square one every time we swing on the swingset.

Teeth!

Crawling!

Pulling up!
Everett was pulling up while we were in Fort Worth at the tail end of his 11th month, and even cruised all the way around the coffee table and Granddad and Cathy's house.

Signing!

"More" and "All Done" are the ones we use most consistently at home and daycare, so it's no major surprise that those were the first ones he used.  We're working on "cup", "milk", "Mommy" and "Daddy".

Chick-Fil-A!

Everett is loving his teeth, and especially likes to bite into his crunchy snacks to hear there snap.  His toothy little grin breaks my heart and makes it soar with joy, all in the same moment.  He's still reacting to carrots, so we're going to give them a break for another few months.  He also recently discovered that twigs and rocks make a fairly filling snack.

One of the biggest changes of the month has made me a little sad.  Everett has always been such a happy camper when he wakes up, but that seems to be fading away.  Instead of cooing or chatting when he wakes, he cries the most pitiful cry I've ever heard. It usually leads to extra cuddles and hugs when he wakes up from his nap, which neither of us mind too much.  Just makes me a little sad that the little guy isn't enjoying himself as much when he wakes.

On the daycare front, Everett continues to thrive there.  He and three of the other babies were all born within 3 weeks of each other, and they are the best of friends. They grin and laugh and shriek when any of them enters the room, and it's a real joy to see him making connections with other little people.  One of my favorite perks is the occasional nap that I happen upon when I come to pick E up early.  Because he sleeps in his room and we don't have a video monitor, it is very, very rare for us to watch him sleep.  Catching him in a nap at daycare is always a treat, as was watching him sleep in the Pack n Play when we were in Texas.

In the evenings, you seem to more interested in eating big dinners with us and less interested in nursing at bedtime.  I have such a strong sense of urgency in this area - I'm in a race to remember and soak up every moment possible with my sweet baby boy, and I know there's an end in sight.

While there is an end to nursing coming, you have only just begun your love affair with toys.  Your absolute favorite toys are the small piano that used to be Uncle Wesley's, the triangle toy from Nana and Pop, the tiny white plastic football from the Gorman Bank, and... your travel formula packet!

Dear PorkChop,

You continue to be such a happy and content baby, but you're becoming more of a boy with each passing day and "tackle".  I know God has made you to be a strong and brilliant man, but I wasn't in quite the hurry for you to get there so quickly.  Please understand that every once in a while I might shed a little tear for you - but it's only because your pure and innocent heart has drawn me so close to our Heavenly Father. You are made in His image, and I long to draw closer to that image each day.

Love,
Mommy

Weekend Getaway to Madison, IN

Last month we took a little weekend trip with our housechurch/lifegroup to Madison, Indiana.  The trip was sort of ho-hum and flat... typical Indiana, UNTIL we made the final right turn a mile from the house.  That last turn took us into the Ohio River Valley, and it was absolutely beautiful!

We were there for a blue grass music festival, but we took as many opportunities as possible to explore the ADORABLE little town, and the amazing state park nearby.  Caro even took a trip across the river into Kentucky for an ice cream play date with the Conrads and the Flanagans, so she's been someplace Chris and I have never been!  =D
