In my biggest hopes and wishes, I never imagined I would have a son as sweet and handsome and loveable as you. You are such a calm and good-natured baby... it's remarkable! You are, in fact, a baby - so you have some times of fussiness. Usually in the evening when you're fighting sleep because want to stay up and watch the Olympics with Daddy. Your fussy spells are short-lived, and you're quite happy to settle down as soon as we find and fix the "problem".
Your sister is one of the best detectives when it comes to fussiness. First, she picks you up. If that doesn't work, she holds you in her special way and pats you on the back (or bottom, or thigh... whichever she can reach. ;)) If you're still unhappy, she changes your diapers and sings to you. When all of those things are ineffective, she sweetly plops you in my lap for some mommy time. You two love each other more and more every day, which is a blessing to this mommy's heart!

Everett, you are growing so much each day! You were such a strong boy when you were born, but your cheeks are getting soft and round, and your little legs are super long AND healthy. Daddy thinks you're going to be a linebacker.;) Most of your hair is falling out... except for the parts at around the bottom. Daddy calls it the "Pa-Paw" cut. Your eyes look like they're going to stay stormy blue, which I'm over the moon about. My favorite time of the day is just after you nurse. Your milk tummy sticks out and your cheeks are flushed and pink, and you hum while you breathe. HEAVEN!!
At your 1 Month appointment you weighed 12 lbs / 7 oz and are now 23 inches long!! (BTW: I'm pretty sure you and Caroline are Dr. Robinson's favorite patients.) You outgrew your "newborn" clothes a couple of weeks ago, and you're fully into the 0-3 month duds. You're very warm-natured, so you spend most of your time in a cotton onesie or just in a diaper. I'm looking forward to the cooler weather because we'll finally be able to dress you in more of the uber cool outfits that are hanging in the closet.
You're on a "sort of" schedule. The dependable part is that you WILL want to be fed every 3 hours. And you're good to sleep for some longer stretches at night... you usually go down about 10pm and wake up for two feedings before you're up for the day about 7 or 8am. Sometimes you sleep another 3 hours (like today), but usually you have a very alert/awake time between 8 and 11am, when you have lunch and a short nap.
Talk about ALERT. You are SUCH an alert and pensive boy!! You enjoy looking out the window and sitting with me on the back patio, but you aren't just observing... you're studying everything you can see or hear or feel. I especially love it when you feel a breeze outside. Your entire body gets tense and you furrow your brow and you turn your little head toward the breeze and hold it there, completely still and quiet, until it passes. One thing is for certain, you love to be outside just as much as your sister did! Luckily, our fall weather is creeping in and we've been in the low 80s all week. That makes taking 2 or 3 long walks each day a little more enjoyable.
I have to brag. You have been smiling pretty regularly for over a week. It is NOT just tummy gas, they are real smiles. Usually when you first wake up and you look around and your eyes focus on me or Daddy or Caroline. You get a funny look of recognition on your face and then you give us the BIGGEST "no teefs" grins. We LOVE it, and would spend all day sitting around waiting for those smiles if we had the choice.
It's remarkable how quickly you've stolen our hearts. We love you SO much, and we're thankful that God blessed us with you, Everett Isaiah Cox.
Love,
Mommy
Isaiah 9:6-7
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
will accomplish this.
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
